2 pillion riders dead, 2 hurt in motorcycle-ambulance collision in Quezon
LUCENA CITY – Two died and two others were injured after a motorcycle collided with an ambulance in San Andres town in Quezon province on Saturday, July 22.
The Quezon police reported Sunday, July 23, that a motorcycle driven by Ferdie Duaso, 18, with his parents – Felix, 49, and Thelma, 48 – and brother Mark James, 6, as pillion riders, collided with an oncoming ambulance driven by Ricardo Lihay along the national highway in Barangay (village) Camflora around 9:30 a.m.
The ambulance, owned by the municipal government, consequently crashed on the roadside canal after the collision.
The four motorcycle riders sustained injuries and were taken to the municipal health center for emergency treatment and later transferred to Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City.
However, Felix and Thelma died while undergoing treatment at the QMC.
The report stated that only Ferdie was wearing a crash helmet among the victims, which is required by the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
Lihay was taken into custody and would be charged with corresponding criminal charges.
