5 NPA members killed, 2 soldiers hurt in Oriental Mindoro clashes
MANILA, Philippines — Five alleged members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were killed and two soldiers were injured in a series of armed encounters in Oriental Mindoro’s Pinamalayan town last Sunday, November 19, the Philippine Army said on Saturday.
Troops of the 203rd Infantry Brigade were conducting combat operations at Sitio Tugas in Barangay Sabang when they came across 15 NPA members.
The soldiers and rebels figured in a 20-minute firefight which led to the death of three NPA members.
Shortly after, a 10-minute encounter ensued in the same area, leading to the death of a communist rebel while two soldiers were injured.
Afterwards, a third encounter occurred in the said location resulting in the death of another NPA rebel.
Meanwhile, government troops recovered nine high-powered firearms after the encounter.
