Angkas CEO commends rider turning college dream into reality
MAKATI CITY — The CEO of local motorcycle taxi operator Angkas has lauded the achievement of a rider who was able to obtain a college degree through his work with Angkas.
Angkas executive George Royeca recently reacted to stories circulating in social media on the hard work and perseverance shown by one of the riders, Kleiy Escalona, who was able to graduate with a degree in BS Criminology.
“The story of Kleiy Escalona fills me with pride. His success serves as validation of the Angkas business model that is rooted in alternative jobs creation and nanopreneurship to alleviate poverty,” Royeca said.
He further said that since the beginning, the intention of Angkas was for each and every rider to realize that the opportunities provided to them were more than just a source of day-to-day income but also stepping stones to build a better future.
“The reason for being, the why of Angkas has always been a fight for a good life for Pinoys everywhere. The formula, our model, more than just a business was our gift to the people,” Royeca added.
It can be recalled that “habal-habals” were the inspiration behind Angkas. The motorcycle taxi operator, one of three that were given provisional authority by the multi-sectoral technical working group, was able to create a unifying platform where formerly illegal motorcycle taxis found representation, legitimacy, protection, and the opportunity to provide a better future for their families.
To date, Angkas has more than 7 million app downloads with 99.997% safety record. It is currently the top motorcycle taxi app in the Philippines, providing more than 30,000 jobs and helping thousands of commuters navigate traffic conditions in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro.
