BARMM police chief arrested for syndicated estafa
COTABATO CITY — The top police official of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) was arrested on Wednesday night for syndicated estafa.
Agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group served warrants from two Quezon City courts against BARRM Police Director Brig. Gen. John Guyguyon at his quarters in Camp Salipada K. Pendatun in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte.
One warrant was issued by Judge Catherine Manodon of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 104 dated December 1, 2022, and another by Judge Kathleen Rosario dela Cruz-Espinosa of RTC Branch 91 dated May 20, 2022. Both judges did not recommend bail.
In a press briefing in Camp Crame on Thursday, Philippine National Police spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said Guyguyon was linked to the case as he was among the incorporators of a financing company that was sued by clients over a bad check intended for a loan. In a statement to reporters here, Guyguyon said “my conscience is clear.”
“[I] was just trying to help back then but now this is what happened. I was [just] dragged into this case as an incorporator. I had no hand in any collection, or whatsoever,” said Guyguyon.
