MANILA, Philippines — Generally fair weather is forecast to prevail over most of the country on Saturday despite the possibility that light rains will also occur, the state weather agency said.

In a public report, Daniel James Villamil, an expert from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), said the easterlies, or winds coming from the Pacific Ocean, and the northeast monsoon, which is locally known as amihan, continue to influence to country’s climate.

“Dahil sa easterlies, o ‘yung hanging galing sa karagatang Pasipiko, ay maaliwalas na panahon ang ating inaasahan sa malaking bahagi ng ating bansa,” he explained.

On the other hand, he noted, the northeast monsoon is expected to bring overcast skies with light rains over Batanes and Cagayan as well as partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

Pagasa, however, said these weather conditions won’t have any significant impact on the affected areas.

As for Metro Manila and the rest of the country, the state weather bureau said they will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms on Saturday due to localized thunderstorms. Pagasa warned affected residents of possible flash floods or landslides.

Pagasa did not issue a gale warning alert in any part of the country’s seaboards for Saturday.
