CHR investigates death of barangay official in Oriental Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) is independently investigating the case of a barangay councilor and dentist who was found dead inside his dental clinic in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro.
The CHR said its Region IV-B office would lead the probe. It added that their investigation is part of their “mandate and vigilance in the protection and promotion of the rights of every Filipino.”
“CHR is also coordinating with relevant authorities and agencies to aid in the investigation of this case to ensure that accountability is exacted from the perpetrators,” it said in a statement Tuesday.
The victim was identified as 63-year-old Anacorito Bolor, who sustained multiple stab wounds in his body. Authorities said Bolor’s belongings were strewn all over the clinic, leading the police to believe that the motive was robbery.

Bolor wore flashy jewelry when he filed a certificate of candidacy for president during the 2010 elections. However, police said he was eventually declared a nuisance candidate.
Almost a week after Bolor’s body was found, the Calapan City police arrested three suspects – one of them returned a jewelry that belonged to the victim.
The CHR acknowledged the swift response of the police but again stressed its call to the government to “implement proactive measures” to reduce crimes.
“The Commission urges for concrete actions which address the root of the matter by establishing preventive mechanisms that promote the welfare of every Filipino and to finally put a stop on criminality,” it added.
