Criminal raps filed vs Chinese nat’l linked to kidnapping of Pogo workers

MANILA, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Friday filed criminal complaints against a Chinese man allegedly involved in the kidnapping of Pogo (Philippine offshore gaming operator) workers.

Facing a complaint for violation of the New Anti-Carnapping Law, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, and Illegal possession of firearms and ammunition is Yu Yang alias Davao/Da Bao.

Yu was brought to the Department of Justice (DOJ) to undergo inquest proceedings following his arrest last Thursday.

An inquest proceeding is a summary procedure to determine whether an individual arrested without a warrant will be released on account of a dismissal of charges, released for further preliminary investigation proceedings, or charged in court.

During the inquest, Yu opted not to ask for a preliminary investigation. Thus, the inquest prosecutor is expected to release a resolution within the period prescribed by law, which is up to 36 hours.

When asked why there was no kidnapping complaint filed, the National Prosecution Service said they expect a separate filing of a complaint for kidnapping for ransom.
