DOH logs 1,944 COVID-19 infections on Holy Week

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday said it recorded a total of 1,944 COVID-19 cases during the observance of Holy Week or from April 3 to 9, which is slightly higher than the 1,721 infections registered the previous week.

This total, based on the DOH’s latest weekly data, translated to a daily average of 278, which the department noted is 13 percent higher than the 246 daily average recorded from March 27 to April 2.

Meanwhile, 17 or 0.94 percent of the total recorded infections were tagged as critical or severe, bringing active critical or severe COVID-19 admissions to 378.

Thirty deaths were also added to the country’s death toll, but none were noted in the past two weeks as the deaths were backlogs reported as early as September 2020.

Based on DOH’s online tracker, the country’s total COVID-19 caseload is currently at 4,083,678, as of April 9, with 4,007,765 recoveries and 66,420 deaths.

Active cases, meanwhile, are currently at 9,493.
