The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) says on Thursday, February 1, 2024, that two fishermen have been rescued after a whale shark bumped their boat off Barangay Cantagda in Romblon’s Cajidiocan town. INQUIRER FILES

MANILA, Philippines — Two fishermen have been rescued after a whale shark bumped their boat off Barangay Cantagda in Romblon’s Cajidiocan town, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

Authorities identified the rescued fishermen as Edgardo Lozano, 60, and Harry Lozano, 51. They said that the whale shark hit the fishermen’s boat on Wednesday night and that the vessel submerged by Thursday midnight.

“During the inquiry, the fishermen said they were hit by a whale shark while underway, which caused the incident,” the PCG said in a statement.

The PCG’s search and rescue team ferried the fishermen to Barangay Danao, also in Cajidiocan town, while their fishing boat was towed by another fishing boat marked “John Glemen.”
