Marcos eyeing Cha-cha plebiscite held alongside 2025 elections
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday said he is eyeing the Charter change (cha-cha) plebiscite in the 2025 elections, as having separate elections would be too expensive.
The President said that the plebiscite is still under review.
“Pinag-aaralan talaga namin yun dahil kung ihihiwalay natin yung eleksyon at tsaka yung plebiscite, parang dalawang eleksyon yun, eh. Napakamahal. So, baka maaari, kung isabay natin yung plebesito sa local elections na gagawin sa Mayo next year,” said Marcos in an ambush interview before leaving for Australia.
(We are studying it because if we separate the plebiscite and the elections, that is two elections. It is so expensive. So perhaps, we could do them together.)
Marcos said that the plebiscite does not have to take place immediately after the deliberations in Congress.
“We’re studying it and I think there’s a potential there you could possibly explore. So, we’ll see. It really comes down to a practical thing,” said Marcos.
