The magnitude 5.2 tectonic quake had a shallow depth of focus of 10 km.

State seismologists previously explained that a tectonic quake is caused by sudden movement along faults and tectonic plate boundaries.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake did not register any reported or instrumental intensities, and they do not anticipate damage or aftershocks.

The initial earthquake was followed by another quake, striking 86 km off the waters of Cagwait at 10:56 a.m.

This magnitude 5.1 quake was also of tectonic origin with a depth of focus of 10 km.

State seismologists likewise do not expect damage or aftershocks from this second earthquake.
