Leni-Kiko supporters in Quezon gear up for campaign
LUCENA CITY – Despite pouring rain, supporters of presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo and running mate Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan in Quezon are preparing for the tandem’s upcoming campaign rally.
“Here in Quezon, the multi-sectoral supporters, notably the youth sector, are all in full gear in the campaign,” Estacio Lim, member of Quezon for Leni Movement (QueLeni) secretariat, said.
Despite the intermittent rains, hordes of Robredo’s young supporters from this city and neighboring towns attended the “Quezon Youth Fest” held in a four-hectare grassy field along the Sariaya bypass road in Barangay (village) Isabang here Sunday morning to afternoon.
Dr. Tricia Robredo, second of Robredo’s three daughters, graced the event at around 10 a.m.
Tricia expressed her gratitude to the floods of support from Quezon to the candidacy of Robredo and Pangilinan slate.
Noting the brickbats and floods of fake news coming from the opponents of her mother, Tricia confessed that she’s already on the brink of fighting back.
“I know a lot of us are close to losing our patience. I will be honest with you, I’m about to lose patience too. But all of our feelings are being channeled to the campaign, converted to love. This will help us win on May 9,” she said.
She asked the event participants if Quezon province can match the reported crowd of 70,000 that jampacked the Robredo-Pangilinan campaign rally at the Paglaum Sports Complex in Bacolod City on Friday.
The crowd shouted back: “Yes!”
Tricia warned the crowd that during the campaign period, all candidates will express their love for the people and will vow to work for the good of the country.
“But the youth know better. Next time you hear that from candidates, ask them, where are your receipts?” she said.
She stressed that the Office of the Vice President has its own track record.
She advised their young supporters to spread out and reach the other sectors in their respective communities.
She said she and her sisters had tried to stop their mother from joining the presidential election due to the unfair accusations that their mother had to suffer for the past six years.
“But we understand why she has to become a candidate,” she told the crowd.
After her speech, Tricia stepped down from the stage and joined the throngs of wet supporters for photo opportunities amid the continuous rains.
Lim said the supporters of Robredo and Pangilinan in the province will work doubly hard to also register a mark during their campaign rally here temporarily scheduled before the end of the month.
“It is a tough challenge for all their supporters here in Quezon. But we will not pass the opportunity to also show our solid supports to our candidates,” Lim said.
He said all towns have their respective organized group of multi-sectoral supporters who have been conducting the passing of the “torch of hope.”
It is the practice that after the people’s mobilization in a locality, the symbolical torch of hope will be pass to a representative from the next town.
“That torch of hope is our common bond in our collective struggle to ensure the victory our candidates for the future of the Filipino people,” Lim said.
