LTO suspends license of SUV driver in viral Taguig road rage incident
MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has placed under preventive suspension the license of the driver of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) involved in road rage in Taguig City.
The viral video on social media showed the driver stopping in the middle of C-5 road in Taguig to berate a truck driver.
According to LTO, the incident happened on November 24.
“The registration of the white Ford Explorer and the driver’s license of the driver were already preventively suspended for 90 days pending the result of the ongoing investigation of the LTO-National Capital Region,” LTO said in a statement on Thursday.
According to LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II, he watched the video and immediately noticed several traffic violations committed by the driver.
“Personal kong nakita ang video at nakita natin ang mga violations na nagawa ng SUV driver. Kaya agad kong inatasan ang LTO-NCR na magsagawa ng imbestigasyon tungkol dito,” said Mendoza.
(I personally saw the video, and we saw the violations committed by the SUV driver. So, I immediately instructed LTO-NCR to conduct an investigation on this.)
The driver was ordered to appear before the LTO-NCR Office on December 4.
He was also asked to submit a notarized written explanation as to why he should not be penalized for violating at least three traffic rules.
These offenses are reckless driving, obstruction of traffic, and improper person to operate a motor vehicle — under Joint Administrative Order 2014-01 and Republic Act 4136, or Land Transportation and Traffic Code.
