Manila Water underscores importance of desludging with release of scheduled barangays for May
East Zone concessionaire Manila Water’s desludging caravan will go around 44 barangays in Metro Manila and Rizal Province to provide septic tank siphoning to the Company’s customers.
Customers from these barangays are advised to coordinate with their respective barangay councils to know the exact dates of the visit of the Company’s desludging caravan or call the Manila Water Consumer Help Desk at 1627.
MANILA, Philippines — Forty-four (44) barangays in the East Zone of Metro Manila and Rizal Province will have the opportunity to have their septic tanks cleaned in May, at no additional cost, as Manila Water brings its desludging services to their areas.
Residents of barangays 764, 765, 767, 769, 775, 776, 778, 790, 791, 796, 798, 877, 878, 879, and 880 in the City of Manila; Barangka Ibaba, Barangka Itaas, Barangka Ilaya, Harapin Ang Bukas, Malamig, Pleasant Hills, and San Jose in Mandaluyong City; Tandang Sora, UP Campus, Roxas, E. Rodriguez, and West Triangle in Quezon City; CEMBO, PEMBO, Guadalupe Viejo, and Kasilawan in Makati City; Barangka Drive, Batis, Kabayanan and Salapan in San Juan City; and Sta. Lucia and Bagong Ilog in Pasig City are advised to coordinate with their respective barangay councils to know the exact dates of the visit of the Company’s desludging caravan in their barangay or call the Manila Water Consumer Help Desk at 1627.
In Rizal, Manila Water’s desludging trucks will also be present in Barangay San Isidro, Sto. Domingo and San Juan in Cainta; Barangay Dolores in Taytay; Burgos, San Isidro, and San Jose in Rodriguez.
Manila Water continues to call on its customers to avail of the desludging services offered by the Company and have their septic tanks siphoned every 5 to 7 years to avoid failure of their household’s sanitation system.
“Without regular desludging, the sewer drain could become blocked by scum and sludge, which may cause raw sewage to back-up and overflow. Not only will it cause trouble to house owners due to dirt and foul smell, but it can also spread waterborne diseases,” says Jeric Sevilla, Manila Water Corporate Communication Affairs Group Director.
Desludging also plays a big role in keeping aquatic biodiversity rich and alive. As wastewater collected from households undergo treatment in Manila Water’s septage treatment plants to remove toxins, bacteria and bio-nutrients that are harmful to most plants and animals thriving in water, this ensures the preservation of life below water.
“Taking a look at the bigger impact of regular desludging to the environment, proper treatment and disposal of wastewater perfectly aligns with actions to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation and SDG 14 – Life Below Water. This is why we never stop encouraging our customers to avail our desludging services. Collectively, our simple acts of caring for the environment will surely go a long way,” Sevilla adds.
