More Bicol areas suspend classes due to rains, jeep strike

LEGAZPI CITY — More local government executives in Bicol suspended classes on Monday in anticipation of the effects of heavy rains brought by the shear line and the low-pressure area, and the transport strike.

In Camarines Sur, Gov. Vincenzo Renato Luigi Villafuerte said in a memorandum on Sunday that classes at all levels in public and private schools were suspended in consideration of the commuting public affected by the strike and the possible flooding and landslides in high-risk areas.

The local officials advised government agencies and the private sector to provide alternative transportation services and allow work-from-home schemes for those affected.

In Masbate province, classes in private and public schools were also suspended in the towns of San Fernando, Monreal, Milagros, Uson, Palanas, Dimasalang, Pio V. Corpus and Masbate City due to continuous rains.

In Sorsogon province, classes from pre-school to secondary were also suspended in Sta. Magdalena town in anticipation of the effects of heavy rains.

The local government of Prieto Diaz also suspended classes in elementary and high schools due to the bad weather.

Sorsogon City Mayor Ma. Ester Hamor also ordered the suspension of classes from pre-school to senior high schools.

At 8 a.m. on Monday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration Southern Luzon issued a yellow rainfall warning in Masbate and Sorsogon, which means heavy rains could cause flooding in low-lying areas and near river channels.

Earlier, Albay Gov. Edcel Greco Lagman ordered the suspension of classes at all levels due to heavy rains and encouraged the schools to implement a blended learning modality. INQ
