Cold and cloudy weather in northern, eastern parts of PH due to cascading Amihan

MANILA, Philippines — The northern and eastern portions of Luzon and Visayas may see cloudy skies and light rains as the northeast monsoon’s recent surge continue, state meteorologists said on Monday afternoon.

Weather updates from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that the northeast monsoon or Amihan may also affect northeastern parts of Mindanao, especially the Caraga Region, which means that areas within the region may experience cold weather.

Pagasa said that no other system affects the country as of now, as no low-pressure areas or tropical cyclones are expected in the coming days.

For Tuesday, the state weather bureau still expects rains in Cagayan Valley, Aurora, eastern parts of Southern Luzon, and Bicol Region because of the surging Amihan. Western parts of the country may experience fairer weather, but isolated rain showers are still possible, especially by afternoon and night.

Temperatures over Metro Manila would remain low at 22 to 30 degrees Celsius, and even lower up north with 20 to 26 degrees in Tuguegarao, 20 to 29 degrees in Laoag, and 11 to 21 degrees in Baguio City. Down south, Tagaytay would have something between 21 to 27 degrees, 24 to 29 degrees for Legazpi, and 24 to 30 degrees for Puerto Princesa.

Visayas and Mindanao would also experience lower than usual temperatures: Iloilo, Cebu, and Tacloban would have 24 to 29 degrees Celsius, Davao with 23 to 30 degrees, Cagayan de Oro with 24 to 31 degrees, and Zamboanga with 25 to 33 degrees.

Due to the latest Amihan surge, a gale warning has been placed over the whole northern and eastern seaboards of the country — from the northern parts of Ilocos Region and Cagayan Valley down to Southern Luzon, Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and Davao Regions.

Fisherfolk are not allowed to set sail and fish in these areas as sea conditions may range from rough to very rough, with wave heights ranging from 2.8 meters to 4.5 meters.
