OWWA warns public about fake social media accounts offering loans

MANILA, Philippines — The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) warned the public on Tuesday about two fake social media accounts engaging in loan lending scams and offering non-existing services.
According to the OWWA, the Facebook accounts of two certain people named “Owwa Rish Mendoza” and “Katelyn Ching” were not affiliated with the agency.
“May mga account na gumagamit ng opisyal na larawan ng OWWA para makahikayat sa ating mga Kababayan patungkol sa loan lending scam,” the OWWA said in a statement.
(There are accounts that use the official images of the OWWA to deceive our countrymen on loan-lending scams.)
The agency added that the two accounts were not linked with the OWWA in the regional and central office levels.

“Tandaan Kabayaan, ang mga account na ito ay WALANG KAUGNAYAN sa OWWA, kahit sa REGIONAL o CENTRAL OFFICE,”
(Remember, these accounts have no link with the OWWA, even in the Regional or Central offices.)

The OWWA also urged the public to report the accounts and to report successive instances where there may be fake accounts to its email [email protected], mobile number/Viber 639175805720, and its landline 632 (8)551-6638.
As of writing, the “OWWA Rish Mendoza” account is no longer active.
