PCG deploys vessel to aid search, rescue of missing Batangas fishers

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Tuesday deployed one of its multi-role response vessels (MRRV) in search for missing fisherfolk in the towns of Calatagan and Tingloy in Batangas province.

PCG said it deployed BRP Malapascua, a 44-meter MRRV to look for two fisherfolk in Tingloy and a fisher in Calatagan.

PCG in Tingloy received initial reports that the Mbca Velocity, carrying two fishermen, capsized during fishing operations near Barangay Makawayan in Tingloy, at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.

The missing fishermen were identified as Wilbert Binay, 45; and Edgar Glen Binay, 42.

On Tuesday morning, the PCG received a report that Harvey Gadbilao, of legal age, has yet to return after departing from Barangay Sta Ana onboard a Fishing Boat Jazzyly on Monday at 8:00 p.m.

Gadbilao’s companions Johnmar Fronda, 19; and Mandy Calimag, 24, have already been rescued by passing fishermen.

They said their fishing Boat Jazzyly experienced engine trouble, and encountered big waves leading them to jump overboard and avoid an approaching large vessel.
