Police file criminal rap vs SUV driver for fatally hitting two men in Mandaluyong
MANILA, Philippines — The Mandaluyong police have filed a criminal complaint against a sports utility vehicle (SUV) driver that hit and killed two people in the city on Wednesday.
In a phone interview with INQUIRER.net, Police Corporal Kennon Rey Araña said the driver, John Marwin Gambalan, 30, would be facing the complaint of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicides and damage to property before the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor’s Office. Gambalan is currently detained.
A police report showed that Gambalan was driving an SUV and allegedly speeding toward Pioneer Street around 7:30 p.m., August 9, when he hit Randy Manalac, a 52-year-old supervisor, and Regean Ramos, a 32-year-old helper, who were both taking a break from overtime work along Madison Street.
Manalac died when pinned heavily against a concrete pole, while Ramos was rushed to the Mandaluyong City Medical Center but declared dead on arrival.
Police have yet to release the results of Gambalan’s alcohol and drug tests.
