Radio anchorman gets death threats after discussing extra-judicial killings in CDO
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – A radio anchorman received a death threat sent through text messages after discussing extra-judicial killings in his morning program here Monday.
Junel Ucat, host of morning commentary segment Zona Libre of the Bombo Radyo here, said he received the text message on Monday morning.
“Hindi ka na ba masaya sa buhay mo? Pagod ka na? Pagpapahingahin ka na namin upang hindi ka na magtitiis. Pakialamero ka sa ibang mga tao na nanahimik lamang (Are you no longer happy with your life? We’ll put you to rest so that you won’t have to suffer. You butt into the affairs of other people minding their own business quietly),” one text message said.
Ucat, in his post on the social networking site Facebook, also posted the mobile number 09363527361 as the source of the text message.
The city has seen a spate of extra-judicial killings in 2014.
Jim Jamaca, who survived a murder attempt in 2014, pointed to some members of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office as those behind the plot to kill him.
Jamaca, his girlfriend Maria Erica Yabut, his cousins Roland and Harold Jamaca were shot allegedly by Senior Insp. Ludwig Charles Espera and Insp. Arnel Gighe and Police Officers 1 Jun Reil Barrientos and Manuel Quipanes.
Jim Jamaca survived the execution after he played dead.
Celso Maldecir, station Manager of Bombo Radyo Cagayan de Oro, said they would take the death threats as real and would continue to broadcast freely on the issue of extra-judicial killings as they fit.
Maldecir also directed Ucat to take extra caution.
Maldecir said they have reported the death threat to the police and would seek an audience with Senior Supt. Faro Olaguera, the city police chief.
