MANILA, Philippines — Rain is forecast to occur on Saturday as the northeast monsoon, easterlies, and shear line continue to influence the country’s weather, the state weather agency said.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a bulletin that both the shear line and easterlies will bring overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the Bicol Region, Davao Region, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Surigao del Sur, and Surigao del Norte.

The shear line is the convergence of cool and warm winds while easterlies are warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean.

The northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, is seen to cause cloudy skies with light rains in Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Aurora, and Quezon, Pagasa also said.

The same weather system will likewise cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

As for the remaining areas of the country, Pagasa noted that slightly overcast to overcast skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms may be expected due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.

Pagasa specialist Patrick Del Mundo also disclosed during Saturday’s morning weather report of the agency that cloud clusters were spotted on the eastern part of Mindanao which could bring rains over several portions of Mindanao, specifically the Davao Region and parts of the Caraga Administrative Region.

But he clarified that no low pressure area is currently being monitored by Pagasa, and that chances of a cyclone developing within the next few days are low.
