Weather-resilient evacuation building rises in Aurora town

MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga — The weather-resilient multi-purpose and evacuation building in Dilasag town, Aurora province has been completed, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 3 office said on Monday (March 13).
The two-storey multi-purpose building with a total area of 600 square meters located at Esperanza village has six comfort rooms, six shower rooms and a dedicated comfort room for people with disabilities, the Philippine Information Agency-Central Luzon said.
It said the structure is equipped with 1,800-watt solar panels and a 10 kilovolt, air-cooled generator set “that will help the facility remain functional even if there is a power outage.”
PIA-3 quoted DPWH Aurora district engineer Roderick Andal as saying that the first floor of the facility serves as a function hall while the second floor is reserved as an evacuation area during typhoon and flood season.
“Barangay Esperanza is listed among the flood-prone areas in Dilasag and this is the main reason why it is necessary to build an evacuation area in this area where the locals can take shelter during an emergency,” Andal said.
The weather resilient building was built for P9.8 million. INQ
