‘Shabu’ worth P10M found in Quezon fast-food chain toilet

LUCENA CITY — More than P10 million worth of “shabu” (crystal meth) was discovered late Thursday inside the toilet of a fast-food branch in Candelaria town in Quezon province.
Colonel Ledon Monte, Quezon police chief, said in a report on Friday, Aug. 11, that the service crew of “Mang Inasal” located in the town proper, informed the local police at 10:20 p.m. that they found a pack of white crystalline substance in a trash bin inside the customer’s toilet.
Responding policemen recovered one sealed plastic bag containing 511.5 grams of alleged shabu with an estimated Dangerous Drug Board value of P3,478,200.
The recovered illegal drugs have a street value of P10,434,600 based on the prevailing price of P20,400 per gram.
Before discovering the illegal drugs, a team of patrolling policemen entered the food shop to eat.
It was a possible reason why the still unidentified illegal drug traffickers hurriedly concealed their contraband and left the eatery, Monte said in the report.
In an online interview, Monte said the investigators learned that some customers immediately left the place after the policemen entered the restaurant.
Monte commended the staff and management of Mang Inasal for their prompt and appropriate response after finding the illegal drugs in their premises.
“In this incident, we can see how much our fellow citizens can contribute to our campaign against illegal drugs,” Monte said.
The police were collecting footage from closed-circuit television cameras inside the eatery to help identify and track down the culprits. INQ
