Father, teen daughter hurt in ambush in Quezon

LUCENA CITY — A father and his teenage daughter were wounded on Monday, Feb. 12, after still unidentified assailants shot at them in Sariaya town in Quezon province.

The Quezon police reported on Tuesday, that Reynaldo Evangelista, 47, was driving a tricycle at 9:25 p.m. with his daughter, Reyzel, 18, as passenger on their way home in Barangay Lutucan 1.

When they reached their village, two armed men suddenly appeared from the dark and grassy portion and pointed a gun at Evangelista.

Evangelista sped off to escape but one of the armed men repeatedly shot the fast-running tricycle and hit the father and daughter, the police said.

The armed men fled after the shooting.

The wounded victims sought help at the nearest house and the occupants took them to a hospital in neighboring Candelaria town for treatment.

An investigation is ongoing to establish the identity of the assailants and the motive behind the incident.

Police launched a manhunt operation to arrest the culprits.
