Romualdez leads aid distribution to fire victims in Puerto Princesa City
MANILA, Philippines — Speaker Martin Romualdez and the Department of Social Welfare and Development on Friday distributed P12 million worth of assistance to indigents and victims of three fires in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
“It is a duty I embrace with the utmost seriousness to ensure that you, the heart and soul of our community, are supported and uplifted during these trying times,” he said.
According to his office, more than 2,200 people received a P3,000 cash aid from the DSWD and five kilograms of rice from the Office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
His office added that Romualdez distributed P4.8 million in cash assistance to around 700 fire victims under the DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

“Umasa po kayong mga taga-Puerto Princesa na ang inyong lingkod ay kasama ninyo sa lahat ng pagsubok na dadaanan. At gagawin natin ang lahat, ayon sa batas, upang maiabot ang inyong mga pangangailangan tungo sa sabay-sabay nating pag-unlad,” he added.

On Feb. 7, a blaze affected 681 households in Barangays Bagong Silang and Pagkakaisa in Puerto Princesa City; and on Feb. 14, anotehr fire hit Barangay San Miguel.
“Maliit na ambag lamang ito para sa araw-araw na pangangailangan ninyo, pero malaking hakbang tungo sa pagbangon ng inyong komunidad,” Romualdez said.
